Head coach biography

Neil Bartholomew

Neil Bartholomew coaches judo in Bermondsey, south-east London, where he founded New Cross Martial Arts. He holds a 7th Dan black belt in judo from the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai (DNBK), presented in June 2026 on behalf of the late Roger Payne, Hanshi 8th Dan. He received his 6th Dan and the title Renshi in Japan in April 2016 and has trained in Kyoto and Osaka. He also holds a 1st Dan in karate, a brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and a UKCC Level 3 coaching qualification. Students who began on his beginners course in 2010 are now black belts.

Neil also runs Platinum K9 Training and Platinum K9 Defence, which train working-line German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois for obedience and protection, and Bartholomew Driving School, which teaches manual and automatic lessons in London, Kent, Cambridge, Royston and Norfolk.
